Standard epoxy coatings are designed for slabs with low moisture vapor transmission (MVT) rates, typically under 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft per 24 hours. Many coastal NC slabs test well above that threshold. When moisture accumulates beneath a standard coating, the vapor pressure builds until the coating delaminates. The result is peeling and bubbling that starts at the edges and spreads. We use a water-insensitive epoxy base coat as standard on every installation which is specifically formulated to bond correctly under coastal NC's elevated MVT conditions.

It depends on which property you're evaluating. As a topcoat, polyaspartic has two meaningful advantages over standard epoxy in coastal NC specifically: UV stability (aliphatic polyaspartic doesn't yellow under sun exposure the way epoxy does) and faster cure (walk-on in approximately 24 hours vs. 5–7 days for epoxy). The more important difference for coastal NC homeowners is the base coat — A water-insensitive chemistry handles moisture conditions that standard epoxy base coats can't. That's not marketing. Where indicators are present — property location near the coast or ICW, visual signs of moisture on the slab surface, or elevated preliminary readings — we place a calcium chloride test. This test runs 60–72 hours and quantifies the actual MVT rate. The test is at no additional cost. The result determines the correct product specification; it's what allows us to give you an accurate proposal and a coating system that holds up.

Sweep or mop as needed. The polyaspartic topcoat is chemically resistant to household chemicals, gasoline, oil, and the saltwater and sand residue common in coastal NC garages — normal spills wipe up cleanly. The Lifestyle Screen's powder-coated aluminum frame and PVC mesh are excellent for coastal salt-air environments. The frame won't corrode; the mesh won't degrade under UV exposure. For day-to-day coastal NC conditions — onshore winds, salt air, sun — the screen is designed to perform. For significant storms or high wind events, the screen should be retracted. Retraction takes about 5 seconds. The screen is not rated for hurricane-force conditions and should always be retracted and the garage door closed before a named storm.

Approximately 3-4 hours for a standard installation. The screen is fully functional the same day. If you're bundling with floor coating, the screen is typically installed on Day 2 or Day 3 — after the topcoat has cured enough to walk on.

Wood and MDF absorb moisture in environments with persistently high relative humidity — they swell, bow outward from the wall, and can develop mold on the back face. The laminate surface separates. Accessories that were level at installation are no longer level. In a coastal garage, wood slatwall typically needs replacement within 3–5 years. PVC contains no organic material so it doesn't absorb moisture, doesn't swell, and doesn't support biological growth. The same humidity that destroys wood panels has no measurable effect on our slatwall. The panels are dimensionally identical in a July coastal NC garage at 85% relative humidity and a dry November morning.

The on-site estimate visit follows within a few days. The calcium chloride moisture test (when required) runs 60–72 hours. The written proposal comes after the test result. Materials are ordered as needed, depending on the scope some materials take longer than others. Screens typically have the longest lead time. Once we know when materials will arrive we will schedule your installation day. Spring and Summer (March–June) runs 4–6 weeks out due to peak demand. Fall and winter typically offer a 1–2 week lead time reduction from signed proposal to installation date. Slatwall and Floor only options have a typical lead time of 2-4 weeks.

You don't need to be present the entire time, but being available at the start of each installation day helps — particularly on slatwall day when the accessory configuration is finalized. For floor coating, being home at the start of Day 1 and at completion covers the most important touchpoints. For screen installation, the crew works independently once the headroom and opener clearance are confirmed.

A polyaspartic garage floor coating is an interior modification — it's not visible from the street, doesn't alter the exterior appearance of the home, and doesn't change any structural element. In virtually every HOA community we've worked in, floor coatings proceed without an ARB submittal. Confirm with your specific HOA documents before assuming, but this is rarely an issue.

Most communities with an active ARB will require review, yes. The Lifestyle Screen is a visible exterior modification — the aluminum frame is visible below the garage door opening when the garage door is open, even when the screen is retracted. We provide assistance with an ARB submittal package, when required, at no additional cost: product specification sheets, installation drawings showing the retracted and deployed positions, and photography of the screen in comparable installed settings. Most coastal NC HOAs that review the product approve it.
