Why We Started Coastal Spaces — And What "Coastal-Grade" Actually Means

Most garages on the Carolina coast don't fail because of bad luck. They fail because they were built with materials that were never meant to be here.

We started Coastal Spaces because we kept seeing it, floor coatings peeling after a couple of summers, wood storage systems warped by the second year, garage spaces that looked fine on install day and looked like a problem six months later.

The products weren't wrong. They just weren't right for this place.

"Coastal-grade" isn't a marketing term we made up. It's the question we ask before we specify anything. "Will this hold up to salt air, high humidity, sandy foot traffic, and the kind of heat and moisture cycling that comes with living near the coast?" If the answer isn't a clear yes, we don't use it.

THE PEOPLE

Coastal Spaces has roots that go back 40 years in the local home services industry — and that foundation shapes how we work. Ross runs with a simple philosophy: clear standards, honesty, and quick communication. Logan is usually the first person you'll talk to — he runs day-to-day operations from scheduling through final walkthrough.

Bill spent thirteen years pastoring in Fayetteville before returning to Wilmington. Logan visited the coast for years before finally staying. Ross grew up here and has never needed convincing — he'll tell you Wilmington is one of the best places in the country to live, and that the best homes are the ones that pull you outside.

None of us are strangers to what coastal NC actually demands, and that shapes everything we specify and install.

WHAT WE DO

We transform garages.

That means polyaspartic floor coatings, retractable garage screens, PVC slatwall, and storage systems; all of which are chosen specifically for what this climate demands.

We work across New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties, and we run every job with a single point of contact and upfront pricing. When you call us, you're talking to the people who will actually show up.

WHY IT MATTERS

The garage is the most underused room in most coastal homes. It's also one of the hardest working — storing beach gear, kayaks, tools, lawn equipment, seasonal bins, and sometimes a car. It takes the brunt of the humidity, the salt air, the sandy feet. It deserves better than contractor-grade materials that weren't designed for where you live.

That's what "coastal-grade" means to us. Not a product that looks good in a showroom, but a product that holds up here.
